The works of Zoe Crosher and Morehshin Allahyari make for an interesting contrast in terms of self-representation. A selection from Crosher’s project on Michelle DuBois is on view at the Contemporary. The premise is that DuBois, a globe-trotting call girl of the 1980s, bequeathed to Crosher a personal photographic archive recording her many theatrical exploits (here, for example, dressing up as Mae West), which in turn serves as the basis for Crosher’s own image and text generation. (Another segment of the DuBois project was also recently a hit here at the art fair.) Among the many offspring of Andy Warhol and Cindy Sherman, Crosher is indisputably among the most intelligent and ambitious. For Allahyari’s Romantic Self-Exiles, on view at Oliver Francis Gallery, the artist projects videos taken from the Tehran cityscape around the gallery walls, across an arrangement of transparent Plexiglas boxes that resemble a skyline, expressing one’s longing for an absent, beloved place. It’s hard not to think that Allahyari’s self-presentation is more serious and inspiring than Crosher’s, but both projects are credible and engaging.

With the judges at the hub, the rest of a sprawling machine fans out: prosecutors, defense lawyers, court administrators and City Hall officials, along with the police and code officers dispatched across the city each day to try to hold people accountable for running red lights, violating building codes, soliciting prostitutes, leaving dogs off leashes.

Rick’s Cabaret International (NASDAQ:RICK) will open a new gentlemen’s club in Texas next week, while company stock shares show some life in 2012 with an 11 percent gain year-to-date.
The new club, Rick’s Cabaret/DFW, located at Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport, will hold a non-stop three-day grand opening party May 10, 11 and 12. Penthouse Pet and adult film star Alexis Ford will be a feature dancer at the event. Ford, who has starred in more than 30 films, will perform two shows nightly during the grand openings, at 10 p.m. and midnight.
Everyone attending will also have a chance to win a trip for two to New York City. TAMPA — A former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman was arrested on drug charges at a Tampa strip club Tuesday.
Torrin Tucker, a starter for the Dallas Cowboys for most of the 2003 to 2005 seasons, was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, delivery of marijuana and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, according to arrest records.
He was arrested at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday and released from a Hillsborough County jail the next morning after posting bail set at $19,500, according to arrest records.

Defendant in Okla. Cathouse killings pleads guilty

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – A former Marine charged with killing four people, including a prostitute featured on HBO’s “Cathouse” series, has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
Oklahoma County court records indicate 30-year-old David “Hooligan” Tyner entered the pleas Friday. District Judge Glenn Jones sentenced Tyner to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors had planned to seek the death penalty at Tyner’s trial later this month.
Tyner was charged in the November 2009 shooting deaths of Brooke Phillips, Milagrous Barrera, Jennifer Ermey and Mark Barrientos. Phillips worked at the Moonlite Bunny Ranch near Carson City, Nev.
The victims were found in a burning home that witnesses have said was the center of a drug distribution and prostitution ring.
Because two of the victims were pregnant, Tyner faced six counts of first-degree murder.

Torrin Tucker, 32, who started 24 games for the Cowboys from 2003-05 and played last year for the UFL’s Sacramento Mountain Lions, was charged with four felonies -— possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, delivery of marijuana and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony — along with a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana. After spending the night in the Hillsborough County jail, he was released Wednesday morning on $19,500 bail.

One day, the valet guys were at the studio, and they were just standing. I asked why and they said they weren’t allowed to have chairs. So I said, “I’m gonna get you chairs, and stripper poles.” And then I did, and later I got a letter from the parking lot company that stripper poles were not allowed.
