Dallas Adult Entertainment: Lansdale’s latest a high-octane detective yarn
Lansdale’s latest a high-octane detective yarn
Rumble Tumble, the fifth installment in local author Joe Lansdale’s popular Hap and Leonard detective novels, releases this Tuesday in bookstores everywhere.
Rumble Tumble finds Hap, a randy, good-old-boy from East Texas, and Leonard, a black, homosexual Vietnam vet, together once again but not far from trouble. Hap’s girlfriend, the red-headed vixen Brett, needs Hap’s help to retrieve her daughter from a life of prostitution in Oklahoma City.
In an amusing opening scene, Hap and Brett are ordered to go to a hotel room to find Brett’s daughter where they encounter a bossy midget and a fat hit man. The two men work for Jim Clemente, a crime boss of sorts operating outside of Oklahoma City in a burg named Hootie Hoot. They inform Hap that “Big Jim” wouldn’t like it if he interfered in Jim’s business affairs. Hap responds by knocking the hit man’s teeth out.
