DALLAS – A driver in a hurry led Grand Prairie police on a chase that ended when the man’s vehicle struck a tree in Dallas.
About 2:20 a.m., a Grand Prairie patrol officer pulled over a silver Jeep speeding on I-30. The driver told the officer he was late picking up his girlfriend from a Dallas strip club.
While the officer was checking the man’s license and papers, the man sped off in the Jeep, leading the officer on a chase along I-30, north on Loop 12 and finally to Northwest Highway in Dallas.
After driving into a complex of restaurants, the getaway ended when the suspect crashed into a tree, then tried to take off on foot.

See, while all the existing bars and clubs would be grandfathered in, no new bars could open up within 300 feet of the school. This also means that if a bar were to shut down, it could not be replaced with a different gin joint, beer hall, wine bar or whatever you call a place where people drink absinthe.
A rep for the Uplift Education, the folks behind the charter school, tells CBS Dallas that the educators are not necessarily trying to drive anyone out of the area: “We know that sometimes there are establishments like bars or strip clubs that are near us. In fact one of our campuses is a quarter of a mile away from a strip club.”
As someone who went to high school across the street from a sewage treatment plant, having a bar or strip club down the block sounds like a pretty good deal.

Dallas Strip Clubs: Bar Owners Fight To Keep School Out Of Deep Ellum

Uplift is about to close on the sale of a building in the 2600 block of Elm Street. The goal is to open a new school in August, 2012, that will ultimately house 960 students, grades 6 through 12.
Nearly 30 bar and night-club owners joined forces Monday night to put a stop to Uplift’s plans. The owners believe that a school is not right for Deep Ellum’s entertainment district. “This is a pretty big deal. This could be a game changer,” Barry Annino of the Deep Ellum Foundation told the group.
Yasmin Bhatia is C.E.O. of Uplift and says their organization’s other charter schools fit in just fine in other areas with eclectic businesses. “We’re use to serving students in high-need areas,” explained Bhatia. “We know that sometimes there are establishments like bars or strip clubs that are near us. In fact one of our campuses is a quarter of a mile away from a strip club,” Bhatia added.

In another workplace-related suit, a former Chevron employee sued the company for harming his reputation and “hurting his feelings.” It seems that the employee, Richard Duste, shared with a co-worker about his “hobby” of visiting strip clubs and brothels. The co-worker told others about it, leading to an internal investigation that resulted in Duste’s termination. Duste sued Chevron, and in October, 2011, an apparently clueless jury awarded Duste $100,000 for his hurt feelings (maybe they made him feel better by giving him a “participant” ribbon as well). In January, U.S. District Judge Maria-Elena James overturned the jury’s award, since the evidence showed that Duste’s reputation wasn’t actually harmed at all. When some Chevron clients heard about Mr. Duste’s “hobby,” they said they actually would have gone out to such adult establishments with him!

Soooo much fun. I’m having so much fun with this character, between the wardrobe and the hair. I’m being tested at every turn. I’m on a stripper pole one week, I’m on a tennis court the next week. Dancing, I’m sure I’ll be singing soon. You never know what’s going to happen on this show. Therer are a lot of shower scenes for some reason. You just don’t know. This week’s MasterPlan missives also address the drilling task force’s thorough discussion defining set-back distances from drill sites to structures that are not classified as protected uses, which fall under the 1,000-foot set-back requirements. But if they’re not protected uses, yet they house people for long periods of time throughout the day, what are they? Or how should they be classified?
That was the question that took up a significant portion of both of the last two meetings, delineating what constitutes a “habitable structure,” what uses should qualify for protection and where to draw the line. The group zeroed in on setting a minimum distance to protect structures that have certificates of occupancy. Turns out, people can occupy lots of things.
A structure that requires a certificate of occupancy could be an office building, a landfill, a rock crushing facility, a parking lot, a strip club or a cell phone tower — some, of course, are more commonly inhabited and consequently more worthy of protection, according to both Cothrum and several task force members.

They were married at Highland Park Methodist Church in June 1951, when then-Nell McGrew of Rotan (outside Abilene) and George, who’d graduated from Crozier Tech, were seniors at SMU. A year later Nell won her award. But in years to come, Owen would become infamous. As Doug Bedell summed it up in his December 7, 1986, sit-down with Owen, who refused to mention first wife Nell and those who followed:
In the late 1950s, Owen was the mysterious boyfriend of Candy Barr and narrowly avoided going to jail when Dallas police arrested the famed stripper for possession of marijuana. In the ’60s, the former SMU athlete survived the acrimonious crash of his marriage to a stewardess named Maureen Kane, who would later become Maureen Dean, wife of Watergate defendant John Dean. “Mo” would essentially come to accuse Owen of bigamy.
