Dallas Massage Parlors: Pig Parts, Happy Endings and More: The Week in the Dallas Food Scene

I reviewed Bistro 31, noting the persistent buzz over my two visits to the Highland Park restaurant from Lombardi Family Concepts. The cramped dining room made me think about what it takes to keep Dallas’ collective dining attention. Is there a cure for dining ADD in Dallas?
Elsewhere on City of Ate, I learned that the pig shanks I ate at the Libertine Bar have a marketing campaign behind them. Commenters jumped in with other pig-wing sightings around Dallas, including Logan’s, Capitol Pub and Eno’s. Other pig parts are being put to good use at Campo as well.
The Cheap Bastard can’t read Chinese, but she still likes the grub at Royal Wok. In addition to the cheap lo mein, Alice points out the a high number of massage parlors in the area. Now you have two reasons to visit the casual Chinese restaurant on Royal Lane.

A former Dallas/Fort Worth Airport police officer – and convicted killer – died last month in Chandler in East Texas. Eric “Ricky” Hartman Quenichet died of dementia on March 13, according to his obituary that ran in the Star-Telegram.
Quenichet, a Grapevine High School graduate, worked as a police officer in Fort Worth and Lakewood, Colo., before taking a position with D/FW Airport.
In 1976 he pleaded guilty to murder in Waco and received 20 years in prison. Quenichet, 33 at the time, confessed that he stabbed Annial Faye Hammock, 28, to death at a Waco massage parlor.
Police in Waco called the murder the “worst in nearly 10 years” according to Star-Telegram archives. The woman’s head had been nearly severed from her nude body and blood was found throughout the massage parlor.

Dallas Massage Parlors: Police looking deeper into prostitution arrest

TYLER (KYTX) – A follow up on a Plano woman arrested for operating an illegal massage business in Tyler. Police are now investigating to see whether Qin Zhang had any other illegal businesses in the state. CBS 19’s Anthony Austin has more on the alleged illegal activity.
Tyler police say there was definitely illegal activity happening at the “Healthy Massage” business off Loop 323. That might be why the owner placed black tint on the windows. She’s been accused of operating it without a license. She’s also been charged with prostitution.
“I thought it was kind of interesting and thought it would be interesting to go get a massage at lunch,” said Charlotte Marsh. She said she had no idea an illegal massage parlor is what she was looking at through her office blinds. “We never saw any cars going in and out there. We’re not sure if it was open.”

Dallas Massage Parlors: Felon confesses to dozens of Dallas-area robberies, police say

Officers arrested Jones outside his apartment in the 14000 block of the Dallas North Tollway near Spring Valley Road on a charge in a Carrollton case. He was being held in the Carrollton jail on three aggravated robbery charges and one issuance of a bad check charge. His bail was set at $432,000.

This is the second Dallas police arrest in recent weeks that was sparked by a tip following the public release of surveillance video.
Earlier this month, a tipster told police he watched a YouTube video of a man committing a robbery after reading about it in The Dallas Morning News.
That tipster identified the man as Perry Stoval, 26, who police believe robbed customers of massage parlors at gunpoint in January.

Dallas Massage Parlors: The darker side of Super Bowl XLV

According to Deena Graves, executive director of child advocacy group traffick911, “At previous Super Bowls, pimps hired cab drivers to turn their vehicles into mobile brothels.”
The campaign by Traffick911 called “I’m not buying it!” attracted such heavy hitters as Dallas Cowboy player Jay Ratcliff, a three-time pro bowler, who has made a public announcement entitled “Real men don’t buy children. They don’t buy sex.”
Ratcliff, who has two daughters, has recruited other National Football League players for the campaign.
“You hear of [sex] trafficking overseas, “Ratcliff announced to the press, “But you never imagine it is happening in the United States.”
Pimps recruit naïve girls at shopping malls, massage parlors and on the Internet. One man was recently convicted for offering a “Super Bowl special” on Craigslist and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Dallas Massage Parlors: American Football: Under-age sex trade booming at Super Bowl

Ms Frundt paced the streets for hours and finally got into a client’s car. When she came home in the morning with just $50, her pimp beat her in front of the other girls to teach them all a lesson and sent her back on to the street the next night with the warning not to return until she had reached her quota. The scenario was repeated night after night as Ms Frundt’s pimp moved his stable across the Midwest. Any sign of rebellion led to further beatings. Escape seemed out of the question. “I was a teenager in a strange town with no money and no place to go,” she said. She finally escaped by getting herself arrested.
Typically, pimps recruit unwitting girls at shopping centres, mall events and on the internet. Once ensnared, shame, fear and psychological manipulation make it hard for them to break free. Clients hook up with girls via the internet, through hotels, massage parlours, strip clubs and escort services, the report said.

Dallas Massage Parlors: Super Bowl a magnet for under-age sex trade

Ensnared into sex industry
Up to 300,000 girls between 11 and 17 are lured into the U.S. sex industry annually, according to a 2007 report sponsored by the Department of Justice and written by the nonprofit group Shared Hope International.
Some 90 percent of runaways and children whose parents force them to leave home fall into the trade and are often beaten, drugged, raped or imprisoned to force compliance, said a section of the report which referred to Atlanta.
Pimps tattoo girls with “$” signs or the word “Daddy” and take them to unfamiliar cities where they are more vulnerable.
Typically, pimps recruit unwitting girls at shopping centers, mall events and on the Internet. Once ensnared, shame, fear and psychological manipulation by pimps make it hard to break free.
Clients, often called “Johns”, hook up with girls via the Internet, through hotels, massage parlors, strip clubs and escort services, the report said.
