In 1997, Angela Bryant was convicted of selling crack cocaine, and she spent 18 months in jail.
So regardless of whether she sells sex for money, she has twice been convicted of selling crack for money.  (To paraphrase the mother from Meet the Parents, “Is that better than a prostitute?”)  That said, none of it matters to her son’s ability to play football.  His story can be an inspiration to many children who endure difficult upbringings, and we hope that Bryant becomes the kind of role model that so many kids who can relate to his situation need.

Ireland has apologized to the former Oklahoma State star for asking if his mother was a prostitute.
According to ESPN, Angela Bryant, a convicted drug dealer who was released from prison in 1998, had another serious encounter with the law last year.
Per the report, police records reveal that Angela Bryant was arrested a year ago for selling crack cocaine to police informants.
She was convicted of two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.

Harberts was busted by undercover cops for indecent exposure in 2002 but his case was dismissed in 2008 even though had had been busted for public lewdness in 1991 and 1995, and for indecent exposure in 1992).
Otherwise, the dismissed misdemeanor cases range from traffic violations to hot checks, marijuana possession, prostitution, and theft…sometimes hundreds of cases dismissed on single days.

Perhaps the most outrageous story to come out of the 2010 NFL Draft was the news that Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland asked a prospective draftee whether his mother worked as a prostitute.
Dez Bryant, who was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round, was the recipient of the question, and Ireland later apologized to him.
At least one person is still unhappy, however. Bryant’s mother, the subject of the disagreeable inquiry, has not heard from the Dolphins GM.
“No, he has not called,” Angela Bryant told FanHouse’s Thomas George. “I think he should have…. I am upset about it,” she added.
Meanwhile, her son’s first day at NFL practice was reportedly “breathtaking.”

Can this story go away? Please? It is unfortunate that there will never be any closure. Bryant’s sticking to his story. So is Ireland (who, for the record, apologized). Bryant’s mom wants an apology. We officially close the book on the disturbing story right now (until the Cowboys meet the Dolphins in the preseason and until the Jets sweep the Dolphins this year):

Dez Bryant angrily dismissed an unsourced SI.com story last Friday that claimed he had told Ireland his father was a pimp prior to the question about his mother. Bryant called it “a lie.”

Mr. Bryant was applying for a job, which explains why he didn’t say anything then. He was casually asked about what questions bothered him during the process.   So are we to say now that any player who has family connected with drugs, alcohol, jail, or any other issues like that will never be drafted by the Dolphins?   That in itself is the disturbing part of this editorial and characterization of the Dolphins’ management.
The fact that Ireland did not apologize until after it came out in the public media means he thought the question was okay, which means a lot of the public thinks it’s okay, too, until someone asks you about your mother….then the rules somehow change?
Give me a break. Everyone has a story now about what you have to go through for the process. Show me where in any process, an interviewer asks, “Was your mom a prostitute?” and is justified.

There is a difference between doing your job and being a complete moron.  It’s a thin line, a line that The Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland bull-rushed over with some force when he asked Cowboys prospect Dez Bryant if his mother was a prostitute during pre-draft scouting.  This is an insensitive question for anyone and especially a young man whose mother has had her problems (His mother had him at 15 and spent time in jail for dealing crack.)

The NFL has to watch out for this type of arrogance, and even after Ireland’s apology this is a black eye to the Dolphins organization.  The comments were obviously inappropriate and unnecessary but I cannot for the life of me understand why he would present a question with no background whatsoever.  His mother has had issues with the law but no prostitution arrests and no indication that she was a prostitute.
