Wide receiver Dez Bryant, one of the most controversial players in the recent NFL Draft, is keen to put all the talking behind him and concentrate on helping the Dallas Cowboys to the Super Bowl.
The Cowboys took a big chance when trading up to take Bryant in the first round of the draft, but Dallas are convinced he has the temperament to go with his undoubted ability to succeed in the NFL.
Bryant hit the headlines just before the draft when the Miami Dolphins asked if his mother was a prostitute during their interview process, something which they have since apologised about.
Former Oklahoma State receiver Bryant was quizzed about the incident in his first appearance at a Cowboys’ minicamp, but is keen to concentrate on footballing matters now.

I cannot believe the national firestorm over Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland asking Dez Bryant in a predraft interview if his mother used to be a prostitute.
It is believed to be the first time a guy has ever been busted for just mentioning a prostitute.
SI.com reported that Bryant in the interview said his father once made his living as a pimp and that his mother worked for his dad — which led Ireland to ask his infamous question. Bryant has since denied that he told Ireland his father was a pimp.

I’m not taking a side here. I can see why Bryant would be hurt and offended, and I can see why people would rush angrily to his defense. I can see how the Dolphins could accidentally step in this, too, given the dehumanizing culture of this sport and this draft and how football management generally treats a workforce that too often comes from a difficult past.
(Think prison guards lording over inmates, although in this case the inmates are millionaires with mansions who are allowed to leave the jail after hours to make it rain in the strip club.)
