Dallas Escorts: Wiley wonders about Parcells’ role in Dez Bryant question

On Wednesday we pointed out that while everyone is piling on Dolphins G.M. Jeff Ireland for asking Dez Bryant whether his mother was a prostitute, no one seems to be questioning what role Ireland’s boss, Bill Parcells, had in Ireland’s decision to ask the question.
Now someone is questioning Parcells’ role in the matter, and it’s one of Parcells’ former players.
“I’ve been in that same position and that same seat as a Dez Bryant,” ex-NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley said Thursday morning on ESPN Radio. “I can go back to when I was signed as a free agent by the Dallas Cowboys in 2004. Walking into Bill Parcells’ office — this is my, quote unquote, recruiting trip of sorts — I’ve been in the league, this is my seventh or eighth year, Bill Parcells, back turned to me, writing on the chalkboard, doesn’t even turn around to, say, ‘Hello’ or ‘Nice to meet you, Marcellus Wiley,’ just echoes, ‘Do you do drugs?’”<br …

Dallas Escorts: Seriously? Who cares what Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland said to WR Dez Bryant?

If you haven’t heard, Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland was interviewing WR Dez Bryant, who was a potential pick for the Dolphins during the draft. During the interview Ireland reportedly asked Dez Bryant if his mom had ever been a prostitute.
The majority of the coverage on Ireland has been bad and putting him down. What I’m wondering is, who really cares? It is just a question he asked in an interview. I’m not saying that it is acceptable to ask someone that question, but the question is also not worth all of the media coverage and negativity it has received since the news has been released. Sure, it wasn’t exactly a great question to ask, but people are putting him down like he killed someone.

Now, I am not saying that it is totally acceptable to ask somebody if their mom is a prostitute. I am saying that the story was over-covered and not as bad as people made it out to be. He was only trying to get a reaction from Bryant.

Dallas Escorts: Problems is Miami Dolphins-land?

But please understand it’s not just Ireland asking inappropriate questions to draft prospects.  This is a LEAGUE WIDE issue, and I have proof considering I wrote about this very same problem two years ago hoping to shed some light on the issue, and understand the reasons why it takes place.
Why does the NFL’s executives, coaches and scouts feel like they can insult, bait, and degrade their future employers, most of whom happen to be African-Americans? Is it because they are paying some of them millions? But wait, does the NHL, MLB or NBA take the same approach to interviewing their future talent pool? And don’t they also pay their talent base millions?
The NFL repeatedly crosses a line, and purposely does it. Just because Ireland asked Bryant if his mother was a prostitute doesn’t mean everyone in the NFL wasn’t talking about it, or trying to dig up the same painful issues that complicated his childhood.

Dallas Escorts: Thursday eye-opener: What should be Jeff Ireland’s punishment?

Thursday eye-opener: What should be Jeff Ireland’s punishment?
Good morning.
When you ask a job applicant whether his mother was a prostitute, your next statement should be an abject apology.
And it is very possible that Ireland was not the lone gunman on this and is carrying water for some of his bosses. At least he’s not a snitch.
But saying all of that, the NFL and the Dolphins need to dig deep on this one and satisfy Dez Bryant in particular and fans and other players in general.
“We need to make sure the men of this league are treated as businessmen,” executive director DeMaurice Smith said in a statement. “
Public opinion should not be minimized in this situation.
Game On! asked readers yesterday whether executives should be allowed to ask inappropriate questions and the answer was a deafening no.

Dallas Escorts: Wednesday’s Sports In Brief

Wednesday’s Sports In Brief

FOOTBALL
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland has apologized to former Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant for asking whether his mother was ever a prostitute.
The apology came after Yahoo! Sports reported that Ireland posed the question during a pre-draft interview with Bryant.
Bryant’s background received extensive scrutiny from NFL teams before the draft. He was taken by the Dallas Cowboys with the 24th pick in the first round last Thursday.
“My mom is not a prostitute,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports. “I got mad – really mad – but I didn’t show it.”
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The mother of a University of Pennsylvania football player found dead earlier this week says he committed suicide.

Dallas Escorts: Dishing the Rock: Character questions go too far

Unfortunately, this trend has taken the interviewing process to a dangerous level. These interactions have now escaped from the comfortable discussion of locker room stability, and have now become superfluous interrogations that can offend and belittle a player and those near to him.
Take for example Dez Bryant, the former Oklahoma State wide receiver and 2010 first-round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys. Bryant grew up in conditions foreign to most of us. His mother gave birth to him when she was just 15 and has served jail time for a drug-related offense. Bryant’s difficult upbringing, coupled with his NCAA suspension in 2009 for lying about contact with former NFL star Deion Sanders, made teams feel that they had reason to suspect that the star receiver may have character issues. Fair enough.
But in unbelievable fashion, one team executive crossed the line. During an interview in March, Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland asked Bryant if his mother was a prostitute.

Dallas Escorts: Jeff Ireland-Dez Bryant incident is latest to damage Dolphins’ brand

Jeff Ireland-Dez Bryant incident is latest to damage Dolphins’ brand
ORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Don’t worry. This isn’t another column about whether Jeff Ireland did damage to Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant by asking, during a pre-draft interview, if his mother was a prostitute. You’ve seen, heard, read, said or shouted enough about that topic since Tuesday. That’s when Yahoo Sports first reported the story, other sources supplied Ireland’s name, and Ireland issued an apology directly to Bryant and through a Dolphins-released statement.
Insensitive? Inappropriate? Insignificant?
The shouting isn’t likely to stop for some time, from both sides, so let’s switch subjects for a second:
Is the front office doing damage to the Dolphins’ brand?
Remember, this isn’t just a football team. It’s a cherished brand, an economic enterprise as well as a public trust. It will be here long after everyone it currently employs, on the field or in the executive offices, is long gone.

Dallas Escorts: DIGEST: Dolphins owner looks into GM controversy

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross will “take appropriate actions if necessary” against General Manager Jeff Ireland for asking former Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant whether his mother was ever a prostitute.
Ireland apologized for the question, and the NFL players union raised concerns Wednesday about discrimination and degradation.
Ross issued a statement saying he’ll look into the matter personally.
An NFL statement said Ireland “exercised poor judgment in asking an insensitive and inappropriate question.”
Ireland’s apology came only after Yahoo! Sports reported that he posed the question several weeks ago during a pre-draft interview with Bryant.
He was taken by the Dallas Cowboys with the 24th pick in the first round last Thursday.
“My mom is not a prostitute,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports. As for his reaction to Ireland’s question: “I got mad — really mad — but I didn’t show it.”
