After two years of research that included enforcement operations targeting prostitutes, the Dallas Police Department (DPD) is seeing the benefits of their innovative new approach of going to the streets to provide comprehensive services and a complete exit strategy for those seeking a way out of prostitution. Data evaluated at the University of North Texas Health Science Center has not only shown the Prostitute Diversion Initiative (PDI) is getting prostitutes off the streets, it is lowering crime rates in areas frequented by prostitutes along Dallas’ I-20 corridor.
…
“The challenge we face today is humanizing the data we have analyzed. Most people are unaware of the prostitute population and believe that those individuals ‘get what they deserve.’ Regardless of your position on prostitution, information about this population is important to our understanding of mental health, cancer and infectious disease, all which affect the general population. We cannot afford to continue ignoring this marginalized group,” Felini said.

Dallas attorney Clint David says provocatively dressed employees are a risk to employers, who could be accused of creating an environment where sex and flirting is encouraged. They’re also a risk to themselves.
“If there should ever be a situation where you feel like you have a claim against your employer for sexual harrassment, if you dress in a provocative way, rightly or wrongly, someone might say, or you open yourself up to someone saying that you invited those overtures.”

“If I have clients here, I want them to know they’re in my office. If I start feeling like i’m in a strip club when I’m in my office, there’s a problem.”

U.S. landmarks such as Mount Rushmore, St. Louis’ Gateway Arch, the Las Vegas strip and the Empire State Building, and world attractions like the Eiffel Tower, Sydney’s Opera House and Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are just some of the hundreds of sites that will turn off non-essential lighting for the hour.
Here are some lights that Richmond could turn off to participate in this year’s Earth Hour. Thanks to a bunch of Twitter folks for the additional suggestions.
Club Velvet’s completely pointless spotlight. We know where the strippers are.
The new MeadWestvaco building. It doesn’t need to be seen from space.
The spinning marquee outside Movieland with the numerous blinking lights (the one facing Boulevard). People will still know where Movieland is.
The Christmas lights my idiot neighbors still have on their house.
The Sauer’s billboard on Broad St. I think it’s nice too, but I’d be okay with the chef not pouring vanilla extract for an hour.
The lights in Richbrau. They have been on every day. I know for a fact they aren’t open. Or are they reopening…?

Victoria Coun. Philippe Lucas is quoted as saying, “There’s absolutely no reason and no excuse for us to wait for an Island-wide model to be put in place before this municipality takes action in trying to reduce the spread of disease and improve the public health of our region.”
I’ll give him a reason: Non-prescription drug use is illegal.
To restate his position, “Drug use is illegal, but we can’t stop it, so we’ll make it as safe as possible.”
Prohibition didn’t work, and laws against prostitution don’t work, for the same reason laws against drug use don’t work: There is not enough public support.
The solution is to make drug use legal, and put it on the same footing as the sale of the most commonly used mind-altering substances, alcohol and tobacco: Make it a government monopoly.

Atlanta Braves minor league pitcher suspended after arrest on prostitution-related charges
By Associated Press 12:39 PM CDT, March 26, 2010
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — The Atlanta Braves have suspended a minor league pitcher who was charged with two prostitution-related misdemeanors after a sting conducted not far from the team’s spring training facility.
Right-hander Deunte Heath bonded out of jail Friday. Kissimmee police spokeswoman Stacie Miller says the 24-year-old ballplayer was arrested Thursday night when he allegedly responded to Internet prostitution ads and agreed to pay $75 for a sex act.
The Braves say Heath has been suspended indefinitely and sent home to Decatur, Ga., while the club gathers details of his arrest. The team says it will have no further comment.
Heath, 24, pitched in 32 games last season with Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi. He went 2-6 with a 5.20 ERA.

Several years ago, Sheila and I had the opportunity to spend some time with Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York. We first visited with Jim and Carol Cymbala and then had dinner with several from their staff. It was Tuesday, and they said they would save a place for us that night for prayer meeting.
If they had not saved us a place, we could not have found a seat in the 1,500-seat auditorium. Fifteen minutes before the service, about 200 men already were standing at the altar praying out loud simultaneously. The service lasted for two hours with very little preaching and a whole lot of praying. We learned many of the folks present had been addicts, prostitutes, drunks and convicts. They didn’t come to the service to be affirmed. They came to be delivered.

The State Department issued a Travel Warning for Mexico on Sunday, after a pregnant American consulate worker and her husband were shot to death by gunman believed to be linked to drug traffickers in the border town of Ciudad Juárez over the weekend. The gunmen also killed the husband of another consular employee and wounded his two young children.
The United States Embassy in Mexico City has advised American citizens to delay unnecessary travel to parts of the Mexican states of Durango, Coahuila and Chihuahua, according to the statement.
“It is imperative that U.S. citizens understand the risks in Mexico, how best to avoid dangerous situations, and who to contact if victimized,” the state department wrote. “Common-sense precautions such as visiting only legitimate business and tourist areas during daylight hours, and avoiding areas where prostitution and drug dealing might occur, can help ensure that travel to Mexico is safe and enjoyable.”
