Some of you may have noticed that there was a little bit of a change in the Top 24 during the Wednesday episode of ‘American Idol.’ Chris Golightly, who originally auditioned in Los Angeles, made it to the Top 24, and was shown in a group shot toward the end of the episode, but when we had individual shots of the 24 semi-finalists at the very end, he was missing. So what’s the story? Turns out, Golightly was less than honest with ‘Idol’ producers.
After nine seasons, viewers and contestants alike have (or should have) learned one thing: be upfront with ‘Idol’ producers. Season One contestant Nikki McKibbin was upfront about her stripper past, and was allowed to stay on the show. Frenchie Davis, however, failed to disclose that she posed topless on the web, and was ousted. Golightly’s infraction was that he failed to tell producers that he had a record contract.

The curly haired Golightly joins a string of “Idol” contestants who emerged from the thousands who audition nationwide, only to be disappointed when the show decides their work or personal history is a problem.
Last season, Joanna Pacitti was shown advancing to the top 36 after “Hollywood Week” but was later replaced by Felicia Barton. Pacitti released an album in 2006 and had ties to 19 Entertainment, which produces “Idol” with FremantleMedia North America. She was also deemed “ineligible to continue” in a Fox news release.
In contrast, the singing competition allowed past contestants David Hernandez and Antonella Barba to stay on after it surfaced that he once worked as a nightclub stripper, and racy photos that appeared to be her leaked online. And Nikki McKibbin says she was upfront with “Idol” producers about her stripping past before she became a finalist during the show’s first season.

But a questionable past doesn’t mean automatic elimination from the show. Season one’s Nikki McKibbin was not DQ’d for working as a stripper before joining the show, and in season two, singer Trenyce fessed up to producers about a felony theft charge on her record and was allowed to continue singing. Season-seven 12th-place finisher David Hernandez go-go danced at a gay bar in Phoenix, Arizona, called Dick’s Cabaret and though producers didn’t seem to mind, he was voted off just as that fact surfaced. Season four’s Scott Savol stayed on the show even after news emerged about a past domestic violence arrest. Bo Bice told producers about his past arrests for felony cocaine possession in 2001 and marijuana possession in 2003, and he almost made it to the finish line in season four.

As a Dallasite who makes my living in the hospitality industry, I was happy for the business that the NBA brought to Dallas this past week.
But the NBA needs to put these guys through a class on some basics. Some of the behavior was appalling, and let’s not even talk about the gratuities. Some of these guys are making seven-figure incomes and don’t know how to read a menu, order, act in a restaurant or tip. And could they please leave the prostitutes at home next time?

Wilson’s efforts were catalogued in George Crile’s 2003 book and adapted for film by Aaron Sorkin. Many probably have no idea what Charlie Wilson looked like — his name instead evokes the Tom Hanks portrayal. For those who haven’t seen “Charlie Wilson’s War” allow me to briefly summarize: He was a womanizing, cocaine-snorting Texan who single-handedly kept alive the American single malt whiskey industry. He spent a fair share his time hanging out with strippers and gamblers, was nicknamed “good time Charlie” and was once fined $90,000 for election-expenditure irregularities. In the movie, then-Afghan President Zia-ul-Haq tells Wilson that his reputation precedes him; Wilson tells an aide, “You know you’ve hit rock bottom when you’re told you have ‘character flaws’ by a man who hanged his predecessor in a military coup.” None of these indiscretions abated while he found funding for the mujahideen, and he never seemed to regret it.

DERON WILLIAMS DERON WILLIAMS DERON WILLIAMS. Except for some boneheaded play in the last minutes, Deron Williams was a revelation on Sunday night. His athleticism, passing, scoring… It almost made up for the absence of Chris Paul. Williams was the best point guard on the floor, and after watching him do pretty much whatever he wanted all night (against no defense, but still), maybe he’s the best point guard in the league? I know it’s an All-Star Game and everything’s relative, but that’s the question that kept running through my mind as the game unfolded. Maybe he’s the best point guard in the league?
YES, THIS HAPPENED. This goes without saying, but the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are a welcome addition to anything, anytime, anywhere. I’m just surprised that neither Mark Cuban nor Jerry Jones contracted the SI Swimsuit Models for the occasion.
ZACH RANDOLPH, +9.
That number can mean whatever you want. Is that how many strip clubs Mr. Randolph visited this weekend? The number …

people. Sure, there are jerks and bad decision makers in every career field. In fact, right here in Minneapolis, a cop is on trial for robbing banks, rich elites were rounded up in a prostitution bust in Hennepin County a few months ago, politicians are flying to Argentina on the public dollar, Wall Street is receiving record bonuses from tax payers, etc. These are real issues. We did live in a “free market” economy prior to the Great Recession, but we have a lot of socialists out here now. Some of you want to see the owners pocket all the money, others dont understand the fundamentals of free enterprise, and some of you just hate seeing others prosper. As long as our society is obsessed with celebrity and entertainment, there will be big money to be earned. Reality TV is clear evidence of the desire for the public to be entertained. These athletes have an elite skill in high demand by the public, an …
