Dallas Adult Entertainment: National Prostitute Diversion Conference opens in Dallas
Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle, Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez and other area leaders were on hand this morning here at the Old Red Courthouse to open the National Prostitute Diversion Conference.
A couple hundred folks are participating in the three-day event, which covers a variety of topics, including Dallas’ two-year-old Prostitution Diversion Initiative. That program seeks to treat prostitutes more like victims than criminals by offering them a chance to enter a comprehensive rehabilitation program, often as part of their criminal sentence.
Since its fall 2007 launch, the diversion initiative has gained national media attention for its innovative approach to battling prostitution.
Kunkle and Valdez were among those who welcomed conference attendees this morning. They also heaped praise on the architect of the diversion program, Dallas police patrol Sgt. Louis Felini.
