… I Am Yours” – I love this passage in Hosea 2: “Therefore, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. And there I will give her vineyards and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. And in that day, declares the Lord, you will call me ‘My Husband’ and not ‘My Master.’ . . .I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness.”
The story of Hosea is so profoundly beautiful and real – God calls a man named Hosea to go and marry a prostitute named Gomer. And when she was unfaithful to him, he was to keep taking her back in faithfulness. God used it as a picture of His pursuit of Israel. . . and us today.

Woody Allen’s script is never hypocritical about our current sexual obsessions. What he is saying is that we are all involvd in the madness, unlike Wilder in “Kiss Me Stupid” who singles out Dean Martin and his fellow Clansman for abuse. We are all ridiculously over-sexed whether we admit it over not and, as Antonioni observes, eroticism is the disease of our age, but as O’Toole retorts, we prefer the disease to the cure, and in the end the only cure is death. I have become very attached to the characters and players in “Pussycat,” particularly Paula Prentiss’ suicidal stripper and Peter Sellers’ manic expressive. They are people I know and understand with the poetic logic of my time, and I sympathize with all of them. Why shouldn’t Paula take an overdose of sleeping pills every time some one looks at her harshly? What is life without love or sex?

Keller’s 1912 essay “How I Became a Socialist,” which addresses attacks on her by media outlets including the New York Times, and other writings are available on the web page “Helen Keller Reference Archive” and in her book Out of the Dark: Essays, Lectures, and Addresses on Physical and Social Vision at Google Books.
Keller also joined the leftist Industrial Workers of the World (known as the IWW or the Wobblies) and wrote in a 1916 article entitled ”Why I became an IWW“ that “I was appointed on a commission to investigate the conditions of the blind. For the first time I, who had thought blindness a misfortune beyond human control, found that too much of it was traceable to wrong industrial conditions, often caused by the selfishness and greed of employers. And the social evil contributed its share. I found that poverty drove women to a life of shame that ended in blindness.” The last sentence refers to prostitution and syphilis, the latter a leading cause of blindness at the time.

New HELLYEAH album halfway done
Former PANTERA drummer VINNIE PAUL says he and his HELLYEAH bandmates have already recorded about half of their next album. Paul did take a little time off recently, flying to Las Vegas to take in the Slash and Friends concert at The Mirage casino on Friday. Then yesterday, he was scheduled to fly to Austin to prepare to open the latest in his Chicas Bonitas chain of strip clubs. On Friday, he’ll head down to Cabo San Lucas to perform this weekend at SAMMY HAGAR’s annual birthday party. As soon as that’s done, he says it’s back home to Dallas to get back to work on Hellyeah. Vinnie says fans should expect an album by March or April, with a tour to follow.
Paul promises so far, the work they’ve done on the record is “great.” And he says once he gets back to Dallas, they’ll begin work, quote, “every one of these days.”

Gingrich rescinds invite for topless club
The Dallas Morning News – Published: October 2, 2009
DALLAS Dawn Rizos didn’t need any formal recognition that The Lodge, one of the best-known topless clubs in Dallas, was a successful small business.
But when former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s conservative group named her an “Entrepreneur of the Year,” she was thrilled by the opportunity to accept the award in Washington, D.C., and speak about ways to help small businesses.
That all changed, however, when Gingrich realized that The Lodge was a topless bar, not some other business in Virginia. He rescinded Rizos’ invitation to a private dinner and returned the $5,000 she gave to his group, American Solutions for Winning the Future.
“It was disappointing,” Rizos said. “We were looking forward to sharing our political views with Newt Gingrich.”

In data collected only in Europe, 64% greatly underestimated the mortality rates of seasonal flu, 26% believed seasonal flu vaccination gave protection against swine flu. 7% had reduced / stopped eating pork.
3% had purchased anti-viral drugs for use at home, while 32% intended to do so if the pandemic worsened.
Conclusions: Initial responses to Influenza A show large regional differences in anxiety, with Malaysians more anxious and more likely to reduce travel and to buy masks and food. Discussions with family and friends may reinforce existing anxiety levels.
Particular groups (homosexuals, prostitutes, the homeless) are perceived at greater risk, potentially leading to increased prejudice during a pandemic. Europeans underestimated mortality of seasonal flu, and require more information about the protection given by seasonal flu inoculation.

Dawn Rizos runs a pretty good business. But the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that even she was surprised when American Solutions, Newt Gingrich’s conservative think tank, said they were honoring her with their entrepreneur of the year award.
Why? Rizos runs The Lodge, which she describes as “The number one Gentlemen’s Club in America, featuring captivating entertainers, fine food and drink in an elegant, intimate setting you have to see to believe.” But Rizos happily accepted the offer to attend an awards banquet where she would get to meet Gingrich himself and even donated $5,000 to Gingrich’s Business Defense and Advisory Council.
Then a few weeks after the invite, she got a letter from the organization rescinding the offer. Apparently, they had mistaken her for another business called the Lodge based in Virginia. Rizos is based in Texas.
