Dallas Adult Entertainment: Clackamas deputies arrest 14 in domestic-violence sweep
According to federal Department of Justice statistics, more than three women in the United States are murdered every day by their husbands or boyfriends.
In 2008, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published data collected in 2005 that find that women experience 2 million injuries from intimate partner violence each year. Also, nearly one in four women in the United States reports experiencing violence by a current or former spouse or boyfriend at some point in her life.
The violence also creates a hostile environment for children. A 2007 study shows that 15.5 million children in the United States live in families in which partner violence occurred at least once in the past year. Of those, 7 million children live in families in which severe partner violence occurred.
Children who witness domestic violence are more likely to attempt suicide, abuse drugs and alcohol, run away from home and engage in teenage prostitution.
