… The brouhaha between Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins and Dallas County Commissioners — especially Commissioner John Wiley Price — shows no signs of abating. Commissioners say that the Dallas County Jail is critically close to its capacity and they blame it on Watkins who they say has changed procedures in his office to intentionally swell the jail population. Watkins, who had a months-long verbal battle with commissioners over his budget until an agreement was reached last week, denies the allegations.
• A former small-town police chief with a checkered work history and past is in the Dallas County Jail, accused of a variety of charges including engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of child pornography. Michael Meissner, 39, is being held on $1.5 million bail on charges of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity,Obstruction or Retaliation, and Misuse of Official Information, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Sexual Performance by Child, Aggravated Promotion of Prostitution, and Criminal Attempt to Possess or Promote Child Pornography.
