Dallas Strip Clubs: Gingrich Honors the Adult Entertainment Industry (Again)

Earlier this month, a studio executive at a California-based pornography company won an Entrepreneur of the Year award from a conservative 527 group, American Solutions for Winning the Future, founded by the former House speaker. It was a mistake, of course, and the invite to join Gingrich for dinner was rescinded.
But did the American Solutions learn its lesson? Not at all.
Today, the Dallas Observer reported that the group sent another Entrepreneur of the Year award to another figure in the world of adult entertainment, this one a strip club owner in Texas named Dawn Rizos.
Media Matters has been following the saga closely, and received a copy of the invitation sent to the California porn executive. Scribbled in the margin is a hand-written note: “NEWT IS LOOKING FORWARD TO FINALLY MEETING YOU FACE TO FACE — AND GET YOUR THOUGHTS ON CAP AND TRADE AND OBAMA’S TAX POLICY.”

Dallas Strip Clubs: Lodge’s Owner Was Set to Talk Cap and Trade With Newt. Till She …

On September 2, Dawn Rizos, owner of The Lodge, received an invite to A Very Special Event with Newt Gingrich. Specifically, she was asked to fly to Washington, D.C., on October 7 to pick up her award as a 2009 Entreprenuer of the Year — an honor that was to be bestowed upon her by the former Speaker of the House’s Business Defense and Advisory Council. Seriously: “Newt would like to arrange a private dinner with you at the historic Capitol Hill Club on the evening of October 7,” read the letter from one Joe Gaylord, who, at the bottom of his lengthy missive, scribbled, “Dawn — Newt is looking forward to finally meeting you face to face — and get your thoughts on cap and trade and Obama’s tax policy.” Except he wrote it in all caps. It’s after the jump.
Anyway, the gentleman’s club owner and her PR man, Michael Precker, followed up with a phone call, during which they were told that Newt would also need $5,000 by way of a RSVP. Which Rizos promptly put on her credit card. Because, hey, sounds fun.

Updated 8:00 PM CDT, Tue, Sep 29, 2009
A 44-year-old woman accused of running a prostitution business from her house was arrested Monday, University Park police said.
Cynthia Martinez has been renting the house in the 2900 block of Fondren Drive since 2006, investigators said.
The Dallas Vice Unit provided assistance in conducting a sting after Martinez’s neighbors began complaining about increased traffic a few months ago, University Park police said.

University Park police make prostitution arrest after sting
06:13 PM CDT on Tuesday, September 29, 2009
A 44-year-old woman who lives in a rental house in University Park faces charges for allegedly running a prostitution operation there.
University Park police arrested Cynthia Martinez after running an undercover sting with Dallas vice officers. They were acting on a tip from a neighborhood resident.
Police said they do not expect other arrests. Martinez might face additional charges relating to city code violations for running a business out of her house, police said.
The prostitution activity is unusual in University Park.
“This is the only investigation of its kind that we’ve conducted since our records went online,’’ said University Park Sgt Bill Mathes.
Police said Martinez lived in a house in the 2900 block of Fondren Drive, between Boedeker Street and Dublin Street, since August 2006. They do not believe the homeowner was aware of any criminal activity.

Dallas Strip Clubs: Panthers-Cowboys Observations

… If you think the 52-inch HD television you have in your den is impressive, you ought to see what’s hanging from the ceiling at the $1.15 billion Cowboys Stadium. The four-sided video screen is 160 feet wide by 72 feet high. And it’s high definition (1080), which makes it all the more spectacular. It would take 4,920 of those 52-inch TVs to equal its size.
The Cowboys don’t enter the field via the normal tunnel route that most other NFL teams do. They walk out through a bar/lounge area with fans right there – but behind ropes. We understand that as the team waited to run on to the field recently, a fan (who had knocked back more than a few Lone Stars) asked coach Wade Phillips if he missed Jessica Simpson. They’re probably going to buffer Phillips from the fans now.
They’ve actually got cheerleaders dancing on platforms above the one of the six “party decks” at either end of the stadium. It gives those areas – which are general admission and have a capacity of about 30,000 – the ambiance of, shall we say, a gentlemen’s club.

Dallas Escorts: Xerox Becomes a Red Light Camera Company

Lockheed continued expanding the traffic camera and parking ticket outsourcing business until it was purchased by ACS in August 2001 for $825 million. Since then, the company has been plagued with scandal. In December, a Dallas judge ruled that ACS had been illegally operating its automated ticketing machines without a proper license. In March 2007, ACS was accused of vandalizing speed cameras in Washington, DC after losing the contract to a competitor (view PDF of complaint). In 2006, ACS faced bribery charges in Edmonton, Canada after police officers accepted lavish gifts from the company — including travel, sports tickets and female escort services — in return for a recommendation that ACS be given a no-bid, $90 million photo ticketing contract. In October 2008, a judge let the police officers and ACS off the hook without bringing the case to a jury.

Dallas Adult Entertainment: Push to preserve historical buildings in Roanoke

Recently, Karen and other members of the Roanoke Historical Society Board made a list of the 21 most important historic places in the town.
WFAA-TV City ordinances don’t provide special protection for historical structures.
They’re now photographing them along with signs that read “this place matters.” The collection will become a watch list, of sorts, each time a property in the tiny town is up for sale or demolition.
There’s everything from a four-star restaurant, with an unlikely military history, to the first mayor’s home, to even the town’s original water tower, built by the railroad.
Roanoke’s already contributed time and money toward moving one historic home, when a new restaurant bought the original site.
The city’s also open to taking over historic buildings. One building used to be a saloon and, rumor has it, a brothel. But recently the owner gave it to the city and Roanoke restored it.
